Increasing turmoil in many of the countries where Conscience International has worked over the past 40 years makes our work more difficult. Yet we continue to field teams of aid workers and medical volunteers in some of the world’s neediest and most troubled spots.
Through partnerships in “closed” countries like Venezuela, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Columbia, and in countries where we are actively taking aid—Bangladesh, Guatemala, Vietnam, Jamaica, and West Bank Palestine and Gaza, Conscience International’s record of extraordinary dedication and service continues despite the obstacles.
A few days ago we heard from our Program Director for Latin America, Dr. Juerguen Kiehnle, who is currently in the field directing a team of trained volunteers to remote areas of Central America. Here is his text:
“It is not safe for me to travel into Venezuela at this time but our local volunteers have done an outstanding job ensuring that the work continues smoothly. We are currently providing relief in three locations: Caracas, Carabobo, and Los Teques.
“At each site, we are running a feeding program for vulnerable populations, serving approximately 40 meals twice a week. This is a model we have successfully implemented in multiple locations in the past, and the teams have been able to execute it efficiently and with strong accountability.
“Because of this continuity, I’ve been contacted by leaders from two rural communities where we previously provided similar relief, asking if support could be re-established.
“Since we already have trusted volunteers in place, expanding to these two rural areas would be highly cost-effective. It would significantly reduce logistical expenses and allow us to maximize impact, ensuring that resources are directed almost entirely toward food purchases rather than transportation or setup costs.
“To make this expansion possible, we need additional funds which would enable us to reach both rural communities.“
People everywhere are experiencing a narrowing of knowledge of world events. When we choose entertainment and local affairs over world news, it blots out much that encourages global humanitarian concern.
