The garbage dump in Chimaltenango, Guatemala where children, adults, animals, and birds compete for food. Conscience International is rescuing as many under-privileged children as we are able.
THEY ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE GARBAGE DUMPS
They compete for scraps of food with the vultures who fly above them and the rats at their feet. Most cannot read or write because they have never been to school. Some suffer and die from disease. Some are trafficked, molested, attacked. Their government mainly ignores them.
They have sometimes been called the Children of the Fourth World. They know no other existence. Life in the dumps, where they live, work, play, and forage is normal to them. They scurry after each day’s dump trucks looking for food or throw-away items they hope they can sell to sustain life another day. And yet, they find laughter and wear broad smiles on their faces. Envision them.
CONSCIENCE INTERNATIONAL IS THERE TO HELP
In partnership with Mi Especial Tesoro (My Special Treasure), champions for under-privileged children from the streets and the dumps, we are supporting a development program for 241 five- to- fifteen- year-old ‘dumpster children’— getting them into school, feeding them wholesome hot food, and providing life-skills training. These are the fortunate ones. They have been rescued from these deplorable conditions; some have been rescued from defenseless environments in their own homes.
THEY LONG FOR A VIABLE FUTURE
PLEASE HELP US GIVE THAT TO THESE CHILDREN – AND MORE
