Without warning, on August 14, a 7.2 earthquake struck Haiti, leaving the population in one of the most poverty-stricken countries on earth devastated again. Buildings collapsed, people have died, and numbers of the dead and injured are climbing. The last quake in 2010 killed more than 220,000 people.
Conscience International has sent its natural disaster emergency support team to Haiti. They are working on the ground under personal risk conditions now. So far more than 1,400 deaths have been confirmed, tens of thousands are wounded, and some 37,000 homes are damaged or destroyed. To make matters worse, tropical storm Grace followed within days of the destruction.
We are highly experienced in Haiti, but now we need your help. Following the 2010 quake, our teams conducted medical clinics (see photo above) and built 189 earthquake-resistant homes from the rubble of the 2010 disaster. More recently, we have roofed a whole village devastated by Hurricane Matthew. That village is near the epicenter of the quake at Les Cayes.
