Conscience International Delivers Free PPE to Volunteer Firefighters in Guatemala

In Guatemala, firefighters are the first line of defense against the Covid-19 virus, and while government-operated fire departments are supported with government funding for equipment, the Bomberos Voluntarios, volunteer firefighters who work for free, are hard-pressed to find funding for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), making their job of responding to emergencies a high personal risk.

But for 10th Company, a volunteer fire department in Guatemala City, Conscience International is delivering free protective equipment as well as medical supplies and sanitizing supplies, helping to reduce the chance of  these firefighters – and those with whom they come in contact—from contracting the disease.

Dr. Jurguen Kiehnle MD (at left), Conscience International Program Director for Latin America, has also volunteered at personal risk.  He is in Guatemala serving in rotation rounds with other doctors at the largest “tent hospital” for Covid-19 patients and making the first delivery of PPE to Company 10. We want to deliver more.
