Angelo Velis is on a long-term mission—to encourage, motivate, and inspire the young people of Guatemala to reach their greatest potential and empower a generation to assume future leadership roles in their home country. As Conscience International’s Community Development Director for Guatemala, Velis travels often to Central America to reinforce partner relationships and meet with agricultural and industry leaders who are lending their expertise and facilities to sanction youth programs leading to jobs and commissioning volunteer teams to come help train them.
Most recently, Velis spoke to more than 200 students at the University of San Carlos in Malacatan on Conscience International’s vision for the future of a nation and to mobilize millennials locally to impact their community and nation. He addressed the importance of personal identity, encouraging youth to “seek excellence in your fields and develop a social conscience for the good of all people. This generation can effectually transform a nation by changing your own mindset first.” he told his attentive audience. Motivated by local leaders, Velis also spoke to students at a private high school and a public middle school, on “knowing your purpose.”
Conscience International programs in Guatemala include working with MAGA (Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganaderia y Alimentacion) - Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food - retraining farmers in more efficient farming practices to combat malnutrition and providing equipment for a woodworking program to train youth for income producing jobs.
He is looking for American volunteer leaders and mission team enthusiasts in a variety of fields who would like to lend their expertise and participate in Conscience International’s vision for Guatemala in 2016. For more information contact Angelo Velis at email@example.com.
