What's Happening Now

In West Africa, Cameroon’s continuing civil war between separatists seeking independence in the English-speaking regions, and the government’s French-speaking majority, the innocents, the children, are where war always finds them-- more disadvantaged than they already are.

What motivates someone to leave their home to go and help suffering people and perhaps face serious danger? Conscience International specializes in reaching out to people in times of crisis. 

On October 9, 2022, some 30 miles south of Caracas, Venezuela, the town of Las Tejerias virtually vanished— buried in mud, debris, and chaos.

When the women and children of Ukraine rush across the border to relative safety in Romania, they carry virtually nothing but a suitcase of clothes and memories of the life they left behind— including husbands and fathers who remain to fight for their homeland.

Rescued, educated, and in training for life-skills— Conscience International and our partner Mi Especial Tesoro (My Special Treasure) are sponsoring 241 five to 15-year-old children who were born, abandoned, or orphaned, and lived, worked and played in the fetid garbage dumps of Guatemala City.

Many live in squalor and stench in the city dump in Guatemala City. Some were born there. Some were abandoned there. Some are orphaned there. Their homes are made of plastic  and cardboard. A large box, if they are lucky enough to find one, is home to a family.

This happy eight -year-old is originally from Honduras, from where, sadly, she had to flee with her mother from the gangs of human traffickers who target young women and children.
